Tax returns.

I've been awol. I was doing so well with blogging then it stopped. It's been a busy week here,;the list ever growing and one item never getting crossed off; the dreaded tax return. With every passing day, I was getting more and more annoyed about not having done it.

To start with I couldn't because they seemed to have two me's in their system and I didn't have the right code but that got sorted out and still I didn't do it. I realised the reason why on about Monday but still didn't do anything about it. Tonight I have filed the thing in about half an hour, obviously promising myself that next time I need to submit it, I am going to do it in May or something but knowing that I won't.

See, here is the problem; Give me a deadline and I will get the thing done for the deadline. Not before though. This would be a waste of time because I have other things that I could be doing instead of the thing that needs to be done months in the future. Essays at Uni were always written between the hours of midnight and 5am, the morning they were due in.

So comes the tax return. Now because we are entitled to tax credits, I had to have my accounts done by the end of July so that I knew how much I had earnt for the tax credits form. I did my accounts on the 27th July. Or rather I finished them then. I could have submitted my tax return then because I wasn't going to alter my accounts; they were a very detailed breakdown of profit and loss, purchases and income but I didn't because I was busy and besides, it doesn't have to be done until the end of January NEXT year and it is the start of the summer holidays and I don't want to have to waste my time inside so I left them promising that they would be done when the kids went back to school before the Christmas rush. Only the rush started early; about September so I didn't get the tax return done.

It is now done though so I can listen to Moira Stewart in the morning and not worry that she is hiding in my cupboard under the stairs, ready to jump out on me with her £100 fine for my late submitting.

Next year, it will be different, I promise to submit in May and sit all smug when I am one of the first to do it ;)
